Sainsburys Under 8 Friendly League Match reports 15.03.08

Alphington Rockets 4 vs. Pinhoe Spears 0

Alphington Rockets were made to work hard for this victory against a robust Pinhoe side. The first half saw both defences on top, although The Rockets created several chances, Pinhoe Spears keeper was in great form. The second half started with the conditions deteriorating and passing becoming increasingly difficult, However, The Rockets stepped up a gear and went ahead early in the half. Will Burwood found himself clear at the far post to fire the ball into the bottom corner. The goal seemed to lift the Rockets, and a through ball from Luke White set up James Dodd to calmly slot the ball into the corner. Lucas White then turned goal scorer after a goalmouth scramble, the ball fell to him, and he slotted the ball home. James Dodd scored his second goal of the game after a Cross from Joe McKenzie. Oliver Saunders and Jake Murphy were solid in defence and held the Pinhoe Spears strikers well. This was an excellent Team performance.

Alphington Rockets 3 vs. Pinhoe Pikes 2

The Rockets made several changes to their side and this seemed to upset the rhythm slightly and conceded two early goals. Pinhoe scored from a free kick in the first few minutes and shortly afterwards Pinhoe Scored again, from a well taken corner.Once the second half started, the Rockets began to gel together. Jake Murphy started the comeback with a fine finish at the far post. The Rockets found their passing ability greatly restricted with the Pikes players working hard. The equaliser came from a free kick. Midfield dynamo Max Hammett  was fouled on the edge of the box. A superb free kick was taken by James Dodd and flew into the top corner. The Rockets continued to press and Lucas White`s stunning strike, from 15 meters, nestled into the top corner. The comeback was complete. James Bovey played in defence for this game and held the line well. This game was a credit to both teams, and although conditions were far from perfect, the spirit shown from all the players involved, encapsulated all the good things about the Friendly League.
