Latest Match News: Heavies 6 - 4 Alphas 13/10/2007

The Alphas went in to this difficult Derby with a change in goal as Matt Parrot came in for Jens Stevens. High flying Heavitree were always going to be a stern test and so it proved. We started slowly ( again ) and paid the price for some sloppy defending and before you could say " the ref's not turned up again " we were 2-0 down

It could have been 3 shortly after when they hit the post but this seemed to be our wake up call and suddenly we started to play . Some good midfield play by Skipper Hoppo and Chip gave MnM May the chance to run through and slide it past the keeper. Within 5 minutes it was 2-2 . A great free kick
from Squeaker to the far post and there was Hoppo rising like a salmon to head home. We were now on top and made our dominance pay when Squeaker released Ozzi down the left and he out muscled the full back to cut in and fire home a drilled shot . 3-2 up what a turnaround . Heavitree didn't know
what hit them .....all we had to do was be sensible and get to half time in front. So then we concede a corner and everyone falls asleep , switches off and a nearpost corner does for us. 3-3 right on half time.

The second half turns out to be a backs to the wall affair with their very quick front three causing us all sorts of problems . We soon go 5-3 down and as we push players forward they get another . 6-3 down but we didn't deserve that. We battled on and finished the game strongly with Chip scoring an outstanding goal from 25 yds into the top corner

Final score 6-4 to Heavitree

A disappointing result but the boys attitude and commitment was top class this week. We were a little bit naive in key moments and some sloppy errors didn't help . Overalll though a good performance. It may not feel like it but in terms of development and what they are learning it is much better to be in this higher division and be tested week in week out than back in Division 2 winning 8-0 most weeks.

Keep battling on and enjoy the challenge

P.S the rumour that the down turn in results is due to the fact that a number of the lads all went and had there ears pierced a few weeks back is not true . However if any of them want to go and play for Alphington Ladies I'm sure they would fit in rather well.
