Dawlish Town 3rds 1 - 4 Alphington 3rds 9/2/2008

“A wonderful day out at the beach” that is how I would describe our game against Dawlish Town 3rds last Saturday.

As we pulled into the car park all the Dawlish players were hanging around saying that the pitch was too wet to play on an d were waiting for the ref to turn up before they would get changed at the point I knew we had the beating of them they just didin’t fancy it.
Granted, the pitch was pretty boggy in places but was playable.

Team

  1. Gino “Fox” Gent
  2. Adam “I was the best player on the pitch” Westle
  3. Wayne “I dig holes” Coles
  4. Sam “How many can I smoke at half time” Haggar
  5. Anth “Toucan” Coles-innit
  6. Steve “The Beak” Fairchild
  7. Nick “Automatic Choice” Westcott
  8. Rob “Grass-Roots” Dodd
  9. Adrian “I will run but only if on a hat-trick” Foggin
  10. Justin “Mono-brow” Densham
  11. Leon “It is summer still isn’t it” Hackworthy

Subs
12  Marc “I can’t shut-up” Bagwell
13  Sam “I can play anywhere” Baxter
14  Nathan “I play well as sub” Grimes

The game started off quite bright with both sides creating chances but it was Dawlish who took the lead with a well taken goal from outside the box that Gino could do nothing about. It was a well deserved lead as they were the better side at the time.
The Alphas took a while to get into the game but once they did there was no stopping them, a well taken Sam Haggar goal drew the sides level at half-time.

Half-time came and went and with the legs on the heavy pitch tiring it was time to bring on fresh ones, first off went Nick Westcott to be replaced by Nathan Grimes much to the dismay of a couple of unnamed players who let the mananger fully aware of their feelings on that decision.

With the score still at level at 1-1 the manager substituted himself and brought on mark Bagwell at left back and moved wayne Coles to right back and pushed Adam Westle up front.

This seemed to do the trick and within minutes we were in front through an opportunist strike from Rob Dodd from the edge of the box., from then on the oppo never got a sniff and with Sam Baxter coming on he got the 3rd and adam Westle with the 4th this was a good performance and one hopefully we can build on.
