The comeback kids do it again!!!!!!
Survival back on!!!!
This was one of the best games of football I have ever been involved in, it was definitely the proverbial game of 2 halves.
The 1st half was by far the worst 45 minutes of football that the 3rd team have produced this season, whereas the 2nd half was by far the best.
Watched by a crowd of 200 plus, this game started off poorly for the Alpha’s with possession being given away at every opportunity, it wasn’t until half time that we discovered we were playing in orange and that we had to kick the ball to our own team mates!!
Even Andy Gray and Jamie Redknapp in the studio with the half-time stats couldn’t believe how one-sided the game was 90% - 10% in favour of Bickleigh.
Russ Cram went off after 90 seconds with a twinge!!!!
Chance after chance fell Bickleighs way and they were far superior, the whole of the Alphington team was awful in the 1st half especially Anth” The Toucan” Coles having what they call in the trade “A SHOCKER” even by his own admission he was poor.
Bickleigh scored 3 goals in relatively quick succession leaving the Alphas shell shocked, the second goal was scored from the penalty spot which was a harsh decision on our part as it was ball to hand and definately not a deliberate hand ball, Gino saved the initial spot kick but as per our defending in the 1st half no-one was following up the rebound and their taker just had to tapp in to make it 2-0.
The 3rd goal was equally bad defending allowing their player to run throughand put the ball past Gino in the goal.
The Alpha’s had a brief glimpse of the Bickleigh goal just before they scored their 3rd with Densham intercepting a back-pass only to round the keeper and promptly kick the ball out for a goal kick (nothing unusual their some may say).
Half-time couldn’t come soon enough to give us time to re-group, players were bickering with each other all heads were down and at that point it looked like there was zero chance of getting anything from the game.
A few home truths from the Captain and a few positional adjustments by the manager was just what the doctor ordered and we came out for the 2nd half psyched up to get something from the game.
Within 5 minutes of the restart we were back in the game with a goal from Dan Hayman (8 goals for season) who took his goal really well lobbing the keeper from the edge of the box after a good through ball from Nathan Grimes.
The second goal came as a result of good work on the right from Foggy who played a good ball to Westle who in turn fizzed a ball across the face of the Bickleigh goal and Densham (10 goals for season) slid in to poke the ball home to make it 2-0 after just 7 minutes of the 2nd half, Bickleigh were stunned and didn’t know what had hit them.
Chances came and went at both ends and then on 70 mins Sam Haggar out of nowhere after a good pass from Jamie Gibbs rasped one into the top right hand corner of the net, rattling the stanchion in the process, he took the goal brilliantly and proved to all what he is really capable of on the pitch if he puts his mind to it.
Once we had got it back to 3-3 there was really only one team looking likely to get a 4th and that was the Alpha’s and this came courtesy of some good play from Westle and Foggy on the right again the ball being flighted to the back post Densham headed it back from the by-line and Haggar was there to grab his second of the match and the winner.
Brilliant comeback from the boys and really does give us a brilliant chance of staying in the division after looking dead and buried before xmas and with the teams around us having to play the top sides and each other still we really do have a chance of staying up.
