Alphington 4 - 1 Teignmouth - Devon premier Cup 3rd Round 27th Oct 2007

The game kicked off with the Teigns looking like they meant business and witha depleted side that included some old shoulders they started well and controlled the game for the opening 10 minutes or so, but it was not long before the wide play of Madge with his pace was giving the Alphas chances on goal.

The Alphas goal account was well and truely opened with a magificent effort by Nick Gott. Lee Staddon fired the ball in form the right wing and with his back to goal Gott span around and connected with the ball to fire in an unstoppable volley making it 1 - 0. nine minutes later Gott initiated the second goal with a great cross ball from midfield to madge out on the wing who fired it into the box for Khoo to head back for Warren Smith to finish. the remainder of the half was controlled well by the Alphas to end the half 2 up.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the 1st with the teigns missing a rare opportunity to get back into the game wehn the striker up front slide the ball past the beaten Adrain Roberts only for the ball to go wide. Arounf the 60 minute mark the Alphas were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box when Danny tyrell was brought down after yet another fantastic display of footwork and speed left everybody bar the last man standing in his wake. gary hayes struck a venomous low strike which Comerford could only parry away, Khoo was 1st man to the ball on the rebound but couldn't guide the ball into the net.

Lee Atkins came on in place of an injured Lyne Lye and made an almost immediate impact when he sent a cross into the box for Danny Tyrell to grab a hold of, allowing him to tip-toe through and fire in the third goal. 3 minutes or so later Tyrells footwork completely mesmerised the defence of Teignmouth and in the confusion the ball went in off the defender putting the Alphas 4 - 0 up.

The Teigns were thrown a lifeline in the 80th minute when Gary Hayes' clumsy challenge in the area allowed jamie Mills to convert the penalty the ref awarded making it 4 -1.

With 5 minutes to play Neil Whittaker had to go off with a groin injury so the Alphas played with 10 men, but it ws clear by this point the game was won.

I have to commend the ref, who had a great game today, allowing the play to flow and using a great deal of common sense. It was also good to see Mr Atkins running the line for Alphington in appropriate officials attire.

Eds man of the Match: Nick Gott
