Teignmouth 0 - 3 Alphington 5th April 2008
A great start for John Moore the new Alphas manager, with Lawrence Khoo opening the scoring within the first 2 minutes. The Teigns were caught napping when the ball was threaded through the back line for Khoo to latch onto and coolly go around the keeper to slot the ball home making it 1 - 0 to the Alphas. The team saw some new faces today with Mike Williams starting up front and finding himself unlucky not to extend the scoreline when Stuart Smith launched a free kick from the Alphas half into the box where Williams climbed superbly to head on goal only for it to go narrowly wide.
With the continued early pressure Khoo was again though after beating the Teigns off-side trap, this time though the keeper stood strong and denied Khoo. It was only matter of time before the Alphas would break down the Teigns defence and it was around the 22nd minute that Smith did just that, Gary Hayes fired in a great corner kick which Williams headed at goal, the keeper could only parry it out straight at Smith who obliged his kindness by heading the ball past him to put Alphington 2 - 0 up.
The first half continued with the Alphas getting more chances with Leigh Atkins, Scott Forster and Mike Williams all coming close but the final touch was not quite there. The first half ended on a high note for me when the Teigns linesman said of his team to myself and phil Hiscox "they couldn't even pass the buck, let alone a football"
Early in the second half Teignmouth found themselves down to ten men when the big man at the back was given his second yellow of the game. This seemed to ge the teigns up as they came into the game a bit and had a few chances, none of which resulted in them scoring.
They managed cot keep Alphington at bay until the 85th minute when they made it 3 - 0 after a great throw out from Adrian Roberts in goal was picked up by Warren Smith to knock down the line for Forster who crossed in with his first touch to Atkins who knocked in a great goal.
A great display by the Alphas and a well deserved victory for the manager in his first game.
