Liverton 7 - 0 Alphington 6th Oct 2007 - Speechless!!!
It pains me to write any type of report about this game, I endured 70 minutes of the game before I could stomach no more and felt I had to leave. I drove home thinking I can't be bothered to write up a report about the game, but I took the time to reflect on it realised I am bigger than that and the fact that for the first time in my recollection we actaully out numbered the home supporters added to my thoughts that at least some are prepared to put their own time and effort into trying to make Alphington a club and a football team to be proud of.
We turned up at the ground and had a very warm welcome and a bit of friendly banter with the guy on the gate where I told him I thought the game had score draw written all over it
- his reply was to smile wryly and to let me know how well they had been doing at home. My next port of call was a quick chat with Robbie Vaughan and it was quite apparent the game was going to be a struggle when he informed me that 8 players were not available due to injury, poor discipline or just "not being available".
On to the game itself, the 1st 5 minutes looked promising as we pressured the Livers well and were denied a cast iron penalty ( even the home Linesman said it was) but little did that matter as the linesmen had already been informed they could not make or advise on decisions of that nature and that their main role was to ensure they flagged should there be a throw-in opportunity!!!!
It went rapidly down hill from that point as the Livers broke and caught the Alphas defence stone cold simply walking through them for Sowerby to start the rout. I watched from the sideline thinking to myself the Alphas are clearly going to get back into this game as, in reality, Liverton did not look that good a side, that may have been the undoing of the Alphas, perhaps they thought the Liverton boys were going to be easily beaten.
I would say from where I was watching Danny Tyrell
was the only player in the Alphas squad who was showing any desire to win the ball, the rest of the team looked like they either did not want to be there or simply had no commitment to playing a team game. The 2nd goal came from a small error at the back just before half time.
The 2nd half started well for Liverton and it was not long before they claimed another goal, and then another and then another at which point I could not bear to watch any more and took myself and sorry for myself feelings home.
There were a futher two goals to end the game 7 - 0 and from what I heard it should have been 8 but Liverton failed to convert a penalty.
The Alphas are curently sitting 5th from the bottom of the table and unless the side as a unit start showing the passion and desire to win that I know they have it is only a matter of time before they hit the bottom so come on Alphas - start believing and give me something positive to write about.
