Alphington 5 - 0 Exeter University 4th April 2009

Expectations before this game were high but I couldn’t have wished for what followed today , like I said in the week we wanted this result after being cheated out of any points at Topsham, road .this was yet again the Alphas in full flow showing there class and determination to get a result and after the fifth went in I felt so proud of squad, we have really turned a corner , too late I know but the team spirit and togetherness is some thing to admire.

From the first whistle we got straight at the Uni not letting them settle on the ball or have any time to create, it was all Alphas keeping the ball and making them chase it with Ryan and Scott causing problems every time they got the ball it only seemed a matter of time before we took the lead and we had another chance to be at least 3 or 4 up in the first ten minutes, but this was not the case we were in total control of this game Gary Wills on his return looking fresh and driving the team on from the middle of the park.

The score remained even til half time and after the break Uni had about a five minute spell until we woke up again Wonna s and Gary Hayes took the game to Uni now totally dominate in midfield and on the 60 minute mark Ryan Leverton broke free to get on the end of a Scott Forster cross to put us one up and within ten minutes of the restart Ryan had his shot saved only to pounce on the rebound 2 up and the game looked out of sight already, at times we kept the ball for twenty passes and looked so classy, all this keep ball set up the second ending with Wonna drilling a shot on target for Kenny Smith to flick in from 3 yards.

Jaydon Mash intercepted a Uni pass and drove at their back line for with a great one two with Danny Wills to set up Kenny Supreme Smith to score the goal of the game a 20 yard volley top corner the old guy is still a class act and with Jaydon getting more involved he linked up well with Ryan and Kenny to score the fifth from a real tight angle or what was left was to see out the game but then a crazy 5 minutes Jaydon was thrown to the ground and then what looked like a kick for Tony Ali to step in to make sure all OK from the dug out for the ref then to book him free kick. Jaydon then nutmegs the same player only for him to pull him back again with ref missing this the ball fell to Jaydon and the Uni player for a 50 : 50 which Jaydon was determined to win but the ref deemed it to be a sending off gutted for the young lad who had come of the bench and was really pushing for a starting place on Friday ..

Must point out that the back 5 were outstanding as ever today as proven only conceding 5 in there last 6 likewise the forwards scoring 16 a great squad performance today and well on are way to are targets.

Gaffers man of the match Gary Hayes
