Alphington 1 - 2 Appledore 12th April 2008

Appledore saw off the Alphas for the 3rd time this season. The Alphas started brightly with some good penetrative play but never found a finish. Much against the run of play the Fishermen took the lead with James Rees firing from outside the box, leaving the defence and Craig Russell in goal to wonder what had happened as the ball was in the net before thye knew it. The Alphas continued to push forward in the first half and at times showed great skill with some intuitive link up play down the wing between new boy Wes Johnson and Scott Forster. With less than a quarter of the game to go Hevington extended his goal tally for the season with a simple tap in from close range after Rees made a good run down the left hand side before crossing in. Gary Hayes pulled one back for the Alphas less than 2 minutes later making it 2 -1 but it was not enough to raise the Alphas who at this point looked like a beaten side.

An entertaining game to watch at times with some encouraging signs of the quality to come next season once the team have gelled together with all the new signings and the fitness levels are up to scratch.
